The term SEO-friendly site architecture is common among web developers. You may have heard of it already, but was probably unaware of what it really is since SEO is usually associated with keywords. However, other than keyword optimization, the programming language used in developing the website can also affect its impact on the search engines.

Search engines are constantly crawling web pages to index keywords used in most search queries. SEO-friendly architecture determines whether a site or a web page is searchable or not by the engine spiders. Despite the global awareness of this concept, several people are still committing mistakes when building their websites. One of which is the use of the most common creative coding techniques and doing it wrong:

Flash

When animation is needed, Flash website designing is very much useful. However, it should be coded in a SEO-friendly way. Most designers do not anymore take time to do this, making search engines unable to even recognize its content.

Image Texts

What is pleasant and complete to your eye or to your reader’s eyes may not always be the case to search engine spiders. One of the most common mistakes that web developers do is to create a text in Photoshop and incorporate it in their website images. This makes a website more appealing and creative, but to search engines, it leaves off lesser data and content words to be crawled through. When spiders find nothing substantial to index from your page, it will eventually leave your site resulting into a negative impact on your local SEO marketing schemes.

Wonky, Complex Coding

Sometimes, web developers love to do things with so much complexity to show their expertise. There is nothing wrong with it, as long as it is done in an SEO-friendly way. For instance, a website which is entirely coded in Javascript has less chances of getting crawled through by search engine spiders; it is incredibly surprising if search engine spiders are fully equipped to handle Javascript codes. As a general rule in local SEO marketing, always have the majority of your codes in plain and simple.

The best acronym for crawlable site architecture is KISS, which stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid! Thus, when building a website for a local SEO marketing, do not lambast it with creative coding when it can be done with simple HTML codes.
